Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones

5.0

The second book in Darynda Jones Charley Davidson series is just as fun and fresh as the first. This story picks up about a week after the events in First Grave on the Right. I really have to give Darynda Jones credit for being able to write a story with multiple mystries to solve and keeping everything coherant. There have been other books that I've read that have tried to do similar with little success. Things get twisted characters get confusing and everything is messy. Jones, by having one new story to solve and one continuing mystery going on keeps things very clear. Again, I was just as interested in learning new things about Reyes and Charley's power as I was about the missing woman.

I again loved Charley's wit. She's such a fun character. She's intelligent and as we learn in this book is able to take care of herself in dire situations.

I like the building that's done on the Reyes case in this installment. We're given just enough information that it's we're not left with frustrating questiongs. Don't get me wrong there's still plenty left to learn, but it seems all the questioned raised in this book (or at the end of the first book) were answered. So we're not waiting until the end of the series as a whole to find out what's going on.

The third book comes out in early 2012. I don't know if it's intended to be a trilogy or if it will extend past that. At this point, I would say that we'll get to the end of this story arc at least in the next book, and if there's more after that then we'll get a new story arc. Until Then!
