Story: Two fantasy worlds are connected by a rift. War ensues. Childhood friends find their destiny.
5/5
Characters: Characters are very likeable and there are many, but they are not well fleshed out. Pug is supposed to be the main character, but I had the feeling that it is more a character ensemble.
4/5
Worldbuilding: You get the feeling that the world is immense. The two different cultures are presented very well, even the factions within the cultures. A rich history is hinted at. The magic system is not that fleshed out, but it is not really needed / missing at all.
3/5
Writing Style: I liked the writing style very much. The pages flew by. I was very surprised by the many time jumps which really helped to give the feeling of an epic story. Characters and the worlds were given thus time to develop realistic.
3/5
(Sub) Genre rating: I would put it in the genre of High / Epic fantasy. For a debut novel it is really really well written.
4/5
Final Thoughts / Buzz: I read it already two times and I think it holds very well compared to modern standards, especially for debut novel. You spent years with your characters and you are sucked into the world. I immediately wanted to return to this world and its characters and the new adventures.
