Odyssey by Stephen Fry

5.0

The Odyssey is one of the oldest and most famous stories ever told. The Trojan war is over and it's time for the Greeks to head home, however some have an easier journey than others. This is Stephen Fry's fourth book retelling of the Greek myths and he brings his same conversational, modern tone to the tale. Along with Odysseus's adventures he tells tales of Agamemnon, Menelaus, Clytemnestra, Aeneas, and more.
I read this along side listening to the audio book and I think the audio version is superior. These stories were meant to be told orally and Stephen Fry is an amazing storyteller. He has made some choices to minimise or remove some scenes, I could have sworn that there was more violence and Odysseus was more of a rogue,  so it's not 100% faithful to the Homer, however given it was an oral story  I doubt there is one true original text. If you love Greek myths and you haven't read any fo Stephan Fry's versions, you're in for a treat.
