Inkspell by Cornelia Funke
4.0

The story begins with some keen observations about books and reading. Meggie and her parents have moved in with Ellinor, whose library Mo has helped to restore. Dustfinger has finally found someone to read him back to his own story, but Farid is left behind. He is desperate to warn Dustfinger against Basta so he finds Meggie and her parents.

Meggie and Farid end up in Inkworld. The latter goes in search for Dustfinger and Meggie finds Fegnolio. Fegnolio lives an existence as a palace writer but is most dissatisfied with the way his story is developing itself. For example that his hero by own creation Cosimo has died.

The story carries well, is enchanting and charming until about half way through. When Meggies parents end up in the story and it becomes a race to save Mo from the gallows, some of the magic is lost. However, it is still a riveting tale, well worth reading.
