Gangsta Granny by David Walliams
2.0
I thought I would read this to my granddaughter, but she was not interested. I think it dragged on too long, and might have worked out better if it was much, much shorter.
As a grandmother, I had to finish the story to see what this grandmother got up to. There is a twist at the end that I didn't see coming. It changed the tone of the book, and I think that would have thrown me if I had been able to read the entire book with my granddaughter. The book starts out with lots of laughs (or strained attempts at jokes), but then takes on serious topics. There is nothing wrong with bringing up the serious topics, but the whole book just came across as too much in one book.
There are also aspects of this story that really could have used some sensitivity readers during the editing process. It is only 13 years old, but I think some things were dated and fell flat. I am writing this review a month after reading the book, so I don't remember the details of what bothered me. I just recall that some parts rubbed me the wrong way.
