War Hour by Lauren Loscig
4.0
⭐⭐⭐⭐✨/ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.7/5 STARS)
War Hour:
We follow Lysta, a Court of Valor citizen, who is forced to go through Trials (where the Untrialed earn their powers based on the way that they solve it.) The Trials are a privilege to those who choose to participate knowing fully well that a wrong decision can lead to death. Lysta's Court, however, violates this participation, if they so much blink in the wrong direction, they get sent to the Trials, against their will. The main character is against all of the violence and discrimination so she decides to take matters into her own hands with the help of an unknown stranger. What she did not know were his plans and he offered to save her and her people. Then, Lysta gets dragged into another place without knowing who to trust after meeting new people. Will they believe her? Will they help her save her Court and the people she left behind?
Romance: 3/5
Spice: O/5 (perfect for young audiences though it contains some violence)
⚔️ This book was hard to put down. It had so many cliffhangers. I. Wanted. More. I've always been a fan of supernatural abilities, and never thought of them being EARNED. This book changes your normal standard of magic.
⚔️ Writing style was easy to understand, though I'd wish that there were more descriptions of the setting.
⚔️ Loved the characters, each having unique characteristics! By the way, there is a pronunciation guide at the end, which I really appreciate. We don't want to pronounce their names and become accustomed to it just to realize that we got it all wrong...
⚔️ You will experience some anger towards some characters, and some sobbing for others! Not many books are capable of breaking you.
⚔️ Just like any other book, the last 100 pages are the heartbreaking ones... I did not expect that ending. Loscig does know how to surprise us! I cannot wait for more!
Lastly, thank you for the Advanced Reader Copy - for allowing me to explore and experience this amazing world.
