*note: this is my collective review for all heartstopper graphic novels.
I loved the heartstopper series, it was such a fun time. They are the perfect books to read if you want a fun, lighthearted series to lift you up.
I loved how British it was, such as everytime GCSE's was mentioned, or when they studied An Inspector Calls.
Nick and Charlie's relationship was so wholesome, and sweet and cute and I love them so much. I loved the first book the most, solely because of how cute it was when Charlie was YEARNING AND PINING for Nick and all the readers knew Nick was pining too.
I loved all the other side characters, Tara and Darcy were my favourite side characters and I'm so grateful that the author included lesbians in the serie, I wish they had more scenes. Also Elle as a trans woman of colour was so lovely to see, especially in a series directed towards young people the representation is so important, and her relationship with Tao was cute.
I appreciated the representation for mental illness and EDs and I thought it was realistically depicted due to the build up as it wasn't just shocked in there in the third book. It was really nice to see Nick worried about him, and helping Charlie to seek help, as well as the conversation Nick's mum had with Nick about how love doesn't cure mental illness, as there is too much depiction in the media of love solving all problems and this will hopefully spread positive messages to young (and all) people about mental illness.
Overall, the series was a 4 star for me, and I loved all of it. I loved how expressive Alice Oseman's drawing style was without being over complicated or oversimplified.
Also please watch the Netflix adaptation, Heartstopper, it's perfection.
