This book is chronologically the first in the series and I recommend that you read this one and the next one (Sword of Destiny) before the first published one (Blood of Elves) as it gives background to the story in The Blood of Elves. Having said that it was a brilliant ride with a full cast of players that don’t overdo the story but rather adds to it. This story’s hype is well warranted. I really, really, enjoyed this book. The pace was just the right speed for me as a novice to the high fantasy genre. The story is very detailed without being boring. The author is very good at carrot dangling keeping them guessing helping to spur the reader onto keep reading. I found that reading this book was like a drug, I had to keep reading to see what was going to happen next. I love the main character, Geralt, a lot. Geralt, is a no-nonsense tell it like it is type of person whilst at the same time being very inquisitive and wanting to know everything. If you’re into high fantasy and haven’t read this book yet then I highly recommend it.
