Emerson was waiting to receive letters from her older sister, Jezebel. She spent most of her spare time at the local pawn shop with Riley. She was utterly in love with Riley, but she feared his older brother, Corey.  When Corey knocks on her door to ask her a favor, the money lures her to go to the local club. What he didn’t tell her was she was sitting in a chair on a stage where men from Jericho could buyher. A creepy man with blue eyes inspects her and tells her that he will be back for her. Riley and Emerson profess their feelings for each other. One night of passion ends with Riley disappearing. The only thing she has to remember Riley was the gun he gave her. The same day she receives a letter from Jez saying she wasn’t coming back for her.

Seven years have passed, and Emerson is a dancer at the club. As winter is approaching, she opens her mail to find fifty letters from her sister. They are all redacted and end with “Lots of love.” Emerson realizes that her sister’s first letter had told her to remember a day in October when they were at the secret spot. Feeling her sister was secretly asking her for help, Emerson decides to get to Jericho. She sits in for the buying at the club and is bought by Ben.

Emerson is in Warshaw when it is attacked by men in black outfits. She is injured by an explosion and Ben takes her to a hidden bunker. An elderly man stitches her multiple wounds, but the largest in her stomach causes her a lot of pain. While eating dinner, Emerson sees a map that includes a safe house near Jericho, Emerson’s wound begins bleeding again as they board a plane. In the middle of a snow storm, they crash into the mountainside.

Emerson barely makes it to the safehouse where she meets Bash. Emerson doesn’t tell Bash her real name. Bash helps Emerson find her sister in Jericho. Jez tells Emerson she needs to leave without her after learning Ben was Jez’s husband. Bash tells Emerson that he had been sent to look for her by Riley. He takes her to the Rebellion camp where she is reunited with Riley. However, Emerson still feels hurt by Riley’s abandonment.

This three part story was an emotional drama following Emerson navigating her life after the death of her father. The story is unpredictable and tension is palpable. I didn’t expect the ending and began to dislike Emerson’s selfishness when she met Bash. There were several times I wondered why Emerson chose to follow in her sister’s footsteps. Jezebel was a prostitute and Emerson was aware of the dark side of Corey’s strip club. At first, I thought Ben would win Emerson’s affection or become an abusive Pimp, but I was completely wrong. The revelations were often in parts of the dialogue, which made the conversations intriguing. The details of the areas that Emerson travels are vivid. I could envision every moment.  I am awarding this dark drama four stars.
