The first part of this book was great but I got lost when Death was introduced and became a fully formed character in the second part.
Having read this a year ago I can only say that Jose Saramago's dissection of society and it's systems is truly sublime. His writing speaks truths that we're perhaps too afraid to acknowledge on our own and end up working against us.
