This is a pretty decent social history of the period, but I was expecting a biography and I suppose there's just not enough historical information about Roxelana to fill that out. It became a bit of a slog to finish because the author goes off on long divagations about social structures which, while interesting enough, have very little to do with the person in question. Ultimately, it was frustratingly light on actual biography, and I found the author's inserted assumptions about what Roxelana might have been feeling about certain things quite annoying.
