The trope for this one was my brother's best friend! He loved her as long as she loved him, but she didn't know how to handle his emotions and feelings if that isn't the most realistic representation of how men try to understand their feelings. 
It was great to see the realizations he came to after being allowed to understand those feelings because his best friend okayed and validated them.
