gingerbookaddict 's review for:
The Snowman
by Jo Nesbø
I jumped into this one not quite knowing what to expect. I had seen some favorable reviews from my friends so I thought I would give it a try (aka it was available on audio when I needed a new listen).
I had a bit of a hard time with the names. They are foreign and lovely I am just bad with names so when I am unable to pronounce them myself it always becomes a problem for me.
That aside, I enjoyed the writing style. It has action and mystery, the descriptions are in depth (ew factor) but not over the top (imo). The sex scenes are not closed door and we have some adult talk so cover the kiddies ears. It is a bit 'gritty' just how I like my mysteries.
I had a little trouble with the time line in just a few parts. He went back to give some background story and I got a little lost for a minute until I figured out what was going on. Maybe reading the physical book the chapters would have created enough of a break to make the transition easier, in audio it was a bit confusing.
The main characters started to grow on me. Harry is incredibly flawed and incredibly smart (but not too Sherlock Holmes smart so the reader can easily follow along without lengthy explanations).
I think I will continue this series.
I placed The Snowman on my TBR because it was popping up everywhere. I think it is a movie (a quick search would confirm this but aint nobody got time for that.) so everyone was reading it for a while. I am once again behind the curve on this.
If you are worried about picking up this book because it is #7 and you have not read 1-6 fear not constant reader! I had no trouble picking up what was going on, there didn't seem to be a lot of previous story to interfere with this this mystery so jump on in!
