All Boys Aren't Blue by George M. Johnson

emotional inspiring reflective medium-paced

5.0

This memoir is emotionally honest and open. Johnson's writing style is so effortless to read that I finished this before realising it. It explores the impact that influences like race and family have in an individual's development. These pieces are highly engaging. Although Johnson's open letter is addressed to young LGBTQ+ people, I believe that everyone should read it since it encourages readers to explore their own gender identities, vulnerabilities, and exploration. I say this as a white heterosexual reader because this book will aid in my unlearning. More significantly, it's just a really lovely, uplifting, and perceptive book that I will remember for the rest of my life.
