Hero by Samantha Young

4.0

I am a fan of Samantha Young's writing, On Dublin Street being my favourite book of hers. Her books contains lot of hilarious situations, but even though there is humor in Hero, it is a bit darker than On Dublin Street series.

Alexa Holland aka Lexi works as a personal assistant for a very successful photographer and one day after returning to work she comes to find Caine Carraway for a shoot there. She is stunned to see him because it was her father's actions in the past that had affected Caine tremendously and she tells him who she really is. And lot of things happen after that. And in the end she loses her job.

Now Lexi being the strong and independent woman goes to fight with Caine for her job and Caine being a jerk, he gives her the job as his assistant to punish her for her father's sins. The thing is, he was a jerk to her for major portion until he realized that she is not like her father. And then again, because he thought she didn't deserve a partner like him. Now for that, he had his reasons and maybe valid enough but that still that didn't excuse his behaviour. Lexi was strong and kept pushing even when he tried to give up but later I got frustrated with this push and pull.

I really liked Lexi. I understood why she did, what she did. And just when I started feeling like Lexi is the only one acting as the glue to their relationship, Caine used to do something sweet and prove he loves her just as much. In the end when he comes and rescues her from a situation and then he explains that he had actually come to beg her to take him back and the way he takes care of her when she is hospitalized and everything was sweet. I liked the banter between Lexi and Caine. I liked the secondary characters as well, Henry and Effie were really fun to have around.

I would have given this book 5 stars but I had some minor issues and that is why, I give this book 4 stars.

Some of my favourite quotes:
“You’re the one real thing in my life right now … You should know I don’t want to let that go.”

“I am not your mother. I’m not looking for something else from life. I’m not looking for more. I’m not looking for a great adventure. I’m not looking, because I found it. You are my more. You are my great adventure.”
Caine stared at me in wonder. “I can’t believe that after everything I put you through you’re still here.”

“You came for me,” I whispered, trying not to get choked up again. “Even though it meant facing my father, you followed me to protect me. That meant everything to me. You saved my life.”
His own eyes were bright with emotion and his voice was hoarse when he vowed, “I will always protect you.”

“Is this real?” I grinned, causing tears to spill down my cheeks.
Caine hauled me to my feet and wrapped his arms around me. He kissed the tears away and held me tight. “Baby, it’s real.”
