Of Gods & Monsters by Zavi James

5.0

Of Gods & Monsters is book #1 in the Elysian Gods series. I came across Zavi James' work when she first started as a writer from a reading app. I wasn't aware that she published Beauty & The Crime Boss (the Foster series) up until recently! And I'm so happy that I had the opportunity to read Of Gods & Monsters! The story is navigated from the main characters' perspectives: Quentin and Grayson's. There's a wide range of elements/tropes featured in this fantastic book: a touch of mythology, urban fantasy, forced proximity, forbidden, hate-to-love and dark romance. Zavi James' writing technique is outstanding! She combined all of these elements and executed them so effortlessly. It's most certainly a unique storyline, and I enjoyed seeing the events unfolding in front of my eyes. Especially, whenever Grayson and Quentin were in a heated standoff, which it was most of the time. When two hot-headed, stubborn and combative people collide together things got a bit chaotic and *very* steamy.

For years, Quentin has been keeping a lock on her emotions or more like she was managing her aggression/temper, keeping it at bay. And Grayson is well aware that he pushes her buttons, and nothing pleased him more to get her all riled up. Because he wanted to break her; for Quen to submit to him. My gosh! These two! There was so much s*xual tension between them, and it built up to a certain point that I thought it was going to explode. Gray and Quen are more alike than they realized, which is why they easily ticked each other off. They might get annoyed and frustrated with each others' behaviors, but it doesn't change the fact that they want each other, even when it's impossible to be together. And the plot twists! It made it even more interesting! Quen and Gray's character developed amazingly! I really enjoyed seeing their relationship/friendship evolving throughout the book. But the ending though! I'm so curious to see how the events are going to play out in the next book. I mean, now Quen has a lot to deal with, especially when she found out the truth about her about herself or more like her heritage.

Dr Quentin Scott is a biologist/scientist; she's smart, intelligent, career driven and successful in her line of work. But her recent task is going to be a lot more difficult than she anticipated. As a vital integral team member, Quentin is working with her co-workers on a project: investigating/examining "The Elite Gods of Elysian". Grayson AKA "God of Chaos and Destruction" is assigned to her team, but he isn't corporating hence, he verbally and sometimes physically stated that this project is unnecessary. He's arrogant, difficult, intolerable and he's a firm believer that mortals/humans are inferior; they are beneath him. But for some reason, Quentin piqued his interest, and he immensely enjoys tormenting her. But he can easily see the chaos and anger/rage in her, and ultimately, he wants to bring it up to the surface.
