Peter and the Starcatchers
by Dave Barry, Ridley Pearson
Delightful. Positively delightful. This book has everything I could want in a bedtime story. Fantastic plot, lovable characters, and my favorite part, a new take on a story you thought you knew. Barry and Pearson do a wonderful job of expanding on the classic children's story of Peter Pan, adding Peter and the Lost Boys' backstory as well as incorporating our favorite elements (Tinker Bell, Captain Cook, pirates, Indians, and mermaids) in re-imagined ways. In this novel, questions such as "How did Captain Hook lose his hand?", "Where did Neverland get it's name?", and "Why is there a giant, man-eating crocadile on Neverland?" are answered. However, you should approach this novel with an open mind. Because it is published by Disney, the novel's plot is based more on the animated movie than the original novel. (And is young adult literature anyway)
