We broke the pattern! So far every even numbered book in this series has been a little bit of a struggle for me but man I'm glad that this one was as awesome as it was. And how fitting that it would happen in this book because as
Prepotente breaks a whole floor of the dungeon
the pattern of great book, mediocre book, great book, mediocre book and so forth is broken as well! :D

It's the 6th book in a series so I try to be as spoiler free as possible:

I felt like just everything worked in this book. The humor was always at the very least good but there were other parts that were just nagging on me, mainly dungeon specific mechanics. But oh boy this books mechanic was freaking awesome. I love card games, I love deckbuilding and that being introduced as a new mechanic just really hit all the right spots.

Plus everything going with the dungeon AI is really cool. Yeah it is all pretty much sadisctic and evil but there is also this certain amount of playfulness and just enjoying this writhing in chaos that makes all this so freaking entertaining.

Plotwise we also made huge leaps. With exploring backgrounds of certain characters and just moving all the pieces into the right spots to set up what's been teased for so many volumes. The 9th level of the dungeon!

This all sets up brilliantly for a huge climax in the next book and I can't wait for it to be out.
