Read this when we were about to study about symbols and shits (ba comm girlie), and I kid you not, that premise about "contact as symbol" was very powerful for me. This book is so damn good I wanna spend my next allowance again to buy the next book. God tier plot, less on the character development (whatevs), and hot shit dialogues. I've been wanting to read books with alien invasion since I read Gantz (a manga), and I found the one. Might think of reading Dune next but who knows? Anw, I'll spend my shit just to get a copy of the second book, this left me on a cliffhanger.
