Song of Solomon
by Toni Morrison
I struggled to get into this at first to be honest. I switched to audio and was sort of keeping up with it and then it grabbed my attention when Pilate pulled out a knife on the guy who was beating her daughter and from then I was invested.
I think maybe because the story was following a lot of male perspectives I found it a lil boring at first but it really did heat up, and I ended up really enjoying it.
I loved all of the symbolism, the exploration of what it means to be a black woman in relation to your father, sons or male siblings. I love the way Toni Morrison explores race without making racism the focus. There’s so much to think about. Pilate carried this for me. And Lena when she read Milkman for filth?? Beautiful.

You’ve never picked up anything heavier than your own feet.
