having not read the adventures of huckleberry finn since high school, i was a bit lost at the beginning in my effort to locate where we were in the larger story. after that first few chapters however the book largely stands on its own. everett was able to add a lot of depth and layers to an already exciting story, and it of course is nice to see James with a bit more agency.
