Kill the Messenger by Maz Maddox

2.0

KILL THE MESSENGER started out good for me but then quickly went downhill. I didn't really like any of the characters very much and it seemed like a large part of the book was setting up Ches with the incubus Azerlyn so I was a bit confused about what couple I was supposed to be rooting for. Dallas was frankly annoying and based on the series name I imagine he'll be a reoccurring character.

The sex scene also made me uncomfortable because Taleb has started to turn into a "vampire" again as the Necromancer tries to control him. He attacks Ches and they're in this huge fight and while Taleb is trying to kill him, all Ches can think about is how hot it is and he's getting turned on. Like Taleb has had all his humanity and autonomy ripped away against his will and would probably be devastated to know he's trying to kill his best friend and Ches is just over here being horny?? They at least don't have sex until after Taleb gets back control but it's literally right after.
