The Butcher's Hook by Janet Ellis
2.0

Well, this could've been half as long as it was, because the only real yet mediocre plot took place in the second half of the book.
All around "The Butcher's Hook" was pretty uneventful and I have no idea what the reason behind that butcher's hook might have been. I tried to see the meataphor behind it, but I failed.
This book felt flimsy and I don't really know what the whole point was.

The MC was so unlikeable and naive, which explains why it took me a whole month to finish this book. I mean I understand that this is a story of a psychopath in the making but she was just such a bitch. I just couldn't with her. I would've had sympathy for her if she'd just killed that piece of shit who assaulted her as a child but her other murders were inexcuseable and pointless.
She always wanted the reader to believe that she was so clever and smart but she's just a naive maniac.

The ending was as anticlimatic as the rest of the book, and my only question is: what was the point? The MC would've gotten what she wanted without performing her killing spree after all.

Besides that, I was so repulsed by the writing. Seldom have I felt so disgusted by a book (for example that sex scenes: wtf?). I don't doubt the author to be a talented writer but the whole thing just rubbed me the wrong way.
