macchiat0 's review for:
Rich Kids of Instagram
by Maya Sloan, The Creator of Rich Kids of Instagram
A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review.
I read through this expecting it to be in the vein of Gossip Girl / Rich Kids of BH / Pretty Wild. It actually even made some meta references to Gossip Girl, but seemed to indicate that it didn't think that it fell into that genre. On the contrary, this book read like Gossip Girl lite - bland attempts at characterization at the introduction of each character, and then rapid abandonment of any growth or interesting psychology.
Yes, we get that they're rich - but it's practically plotless, very predictable, and doesn't even fulfill the guilty pleasure genre that others might.
It also features an often twisty, intentionally leaving out chunks of time, but all this serves to do is mask that there is practically no plot.
The prose is over-wrought, heavily repetitive, and doesn't draw you in. A struggle to finish.
