giouxsie 's review for:
God Emperor of Dune
by Frank Herbert
(4.5)
Damn, it has the subtly of a bowling ball to the face in terms of concretely taking an anti-fascist stance, but it's anarchic philosophy and mixed elements of psychological thriller, neo-noir and political drama just make this a fantastic read!!
My biggest gripe is the discussions of sex, gender and sexuality - and I can't really tell if it's a stilted portrayal or a progressive take on the rampant homophobia and cisheteronormativity prevalent in these kinda of fascists regimes, but I know that the views on page by literally bad guys are not those of Herbert! Though...I just didn't expect Duncan Idaho to be a confirmed violent homophobe....
