As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson
4.5
dark mysterious tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I thought it was a really good finale. I liked how it tied back everything from the previous two installments as well as the gradual growth of Pip’s belief of truth and justice. I thought it was interesting how Jackson took on such a complicated subject of who is really evil.
I didn’t like the twist much at first because I had already dismissed him for being too obvious, but it grew on me. I also didn’t expect the last act to start so soon but I couldn’t put it down afterwards.

I did think it was really stupid how Ravi knew about her stalker but never tried to accompany her as she investigated and she kept going on runs. Like the stalker knew where she lived and they knew he resided in Fairview?! Also in hindsight I don’t see how she ever expected to get evidence that the police would believe without meeting DT because the phone was a burner. I really liked Ravi and Pips relationship this book otherwise but it was kind of crazy how he had zero doubts after the murder. I did still like that it ended with her getting away with murder, it shows how far she’s strayed from who she was and is just a fun concept. I was so surprised they managed to pull it off and I knew they’d end up getting Max in the end in the second book when he was in trial.

I actually don’t have as much issue that she killed Jason Bell (as other people do) because despite what she said I highly doubted she would’ve made it alive without assaulting him. The last victim before her escaped as well but he still found and killed her and Pip was trapped in the complex. She would’ve been easily found in the woods imo especially because Jason has a car, more weapons at his disposal and was stronger. I do wish that we spent more time actually discussing her feelings after she was almost murdered by Jason Bell, also surprised that it didn’t tie into the Jane Doe case.
