The Fire Never Goes Out: A Memoir in Pictures by ND Stevenson

5.0

The Fire Never Goes Out is a stunning graphic memoir, both in its imagery and storytelling, of the early life of ND Stevenson. Well-known for his graphic novel [b:Nimona|19351043|Nimona|N.D. Stevenson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1412626919l/19351043._SX50_SY75_.jpg|27411330], Stevenson invites readers to look at a timeline of their life as a young adult, breaking into his career and recording memories via illustration.

Stevenson shares the good and the bad, the rise of a successful artist and the less-sparkly reality of growing up and figuring oneself out. As his art has always depicted, this collection of illustrations has some crackling funny bits that will make you fall in love with his work if you haven't already. Many young adults will find bits and pieces that resonate with them as well. A fantastic read, a great alternative to typical memoirs and a collection of illustrations that can could be loved both then and now.
