After finishing The Graham Effect, I waited patiently to get my hands on this one, and I was not disappointed. I don't think you need to read the previous book to follow the story in this one, but there are definitely references to some of the main characters in that one that will make more sense if you know the backstory. What I love about Elle Kennedy is that I always know I'm going to get some good spicy spice in her books, but even if you remove all of that, you are still in for a captivating read. This story continues from the previous one following two other characters. It's basically an enemy to lovers/fake dating premise, but she actually makes the journey believable. Unlike some enemy to lovers plots, I genuinely believed Diana's distain for Shane. But this book goes into more detail about his history, so you realize she doesn't have the whole picture on who he really is. Shane has never hidden his attraction to her, but their interactions tend to be more on the feisty bickering end. Due to recent interactions with exes on both their ends, they fall into a fake dating arrangement. He wants to make his ex think he's moved on, and she wants visible protection from her ex that is starting to seem a bit stalker like. Mixed into all of that you have dealing with family history, hockey players, a dance competition that she ropes him into and neighborhood antics in the complex where they live. Another thing I enjoy about this author is that she doesn't typically throw in a third act breakup just for drama. Yes these characters end up having challenges to get through, but there isn't that anxiety about when everything is going to fall apart. If you enjoyed The Graham Effect, pick this up. I really hope she continues writing some of the other side characters into their own stories.
