The Other Side of Sadness: What the New Science of Bereavement Tells Us About Life After Loss by George A. Bonanno

5.0

I got a lot out of reading this book, most importantly that my experience of losing a loved one is not that unusual. The book suggests that most people don’t experienced prolonged or complicated grief; sadness, yes, and recollection, but prolonged and debilitating grief is less common. He goes on to talk about debilitating grief and about differing cultural attitudes towards bereavement, and delves into the ideas of the afterlife. It’s well written and illustrated with moving stories, though the latter half is at times rambling.
