I enjoyed a lot about this book, but it was propped up by a  conveniences that felt unrealistic for the environment. While it was essential for the plot of this book to be told through both of the daugjyers of Sparta, I found one of them to be overall unlikable with little growth and an abrupt end. The other daughter though, had an emotional journey throughout the book and grew into an excellent character by the end. This was the author's first novel, and that is evident in how it's constructed, but I enjoyed her pacing and style and am interested to read more of her work in the future.
