Did not finish book. Stopped at 24%.
I wanted to like this so badly but after starting numerous other books I’m not feeling drawn to this one, I’m not reaching for it or excited to get back into it. It’s very graphically violent right from the start before we get a chance to get to know the characters which makes it hard to want to continue with all the shock value. The writing is a bit telling over showing at times. While I wanted to learn more about Malaysian history under both English and Japanese occupation, the writing and the plot aren’t holding my interest enough so I’ll look for that information elsewhere
