⭐⭐⭐.5☆☆

“The Titanic Survivors’ Book Club” by Timothy Schaffert offers a unique premise with moments of captivating imagery and introspection, but ultimately fell short of fully engaging me as a reader.

The book paints vivid scenes and characters, making it easy to envision the world Schaffert has created. With a love triangle between Zinnia, Yorick, and Haze added an intriguing dynamic, it just did not quite hit home for me. The romance seemed realistic and had depth, but I couldn’t consistently empathize with the characters.

Around the midway point, the narrative loses some of its momentum, and the characters became less compelling to me. This shift in engagement made it difficult for me to fully invest in the story, leading to distractions and a waning interest in the book as a whole. Although “Part Two” reignited some interest, it wasn’t sustained until the end, leaving me feeling disconnected.

One highlight of the book is “Part Two,” where the narrative unfolds through a series of letters exchanged between the characters. This format adds valuable insights into their inner thoughts and emotions, adding depth to the storyline and historical context.

Despite these shortcomings, the concept of survivors grappling with their luck and forming a book club as a means of coping with their shared experience is intriguing. It prompts reflection on the nature of fate and the ways people seek solace in the aftermath of tragedy.

“The Titanic Survivors’ Book Club” offers glimpses of brilliance but struggles to maintain momentum and reader engagement throughout. While the concept is captivating, the book’s execution leaves something to be desired. However, I will say if you are a lover of Historical Fiction, broken people and love triangles, I would suggest giving it a read. It just was not quite what I wanted, but perhaps it will be perfect for you.
