A sci-if horror soap opera - so bad it’s good!

Disclaimer: I listened to this book on audio which made it much easier to get past bad writing and enjoy the corny fun ride. Full of cliches but also full of action, every time I would think “there’s no way things can get more ridiculous”, the things indeed got more ridiculous. I did almost give up on it in the very beginning, when it wasn’t clear if the plot was going the way of sci-fi or just a D-rated Jason Borne type political thriller. Luckily for me, it was NOT the terrorists….
SPOILERS 4 LINES BELOW:
.
.
.
.
- New York corrupt mayor cuts corners while constructing the deepest and most magnificent subway line which of course angers evil underground lizard people.
- Lizard people attack AND OF COURSE Mr President of US of A is in danger as well as above mentioned NY mayor.
- Lizard people go killing men but not women.
- Wait a minute…. They only keep pregnant women.
- Of course, one of captured pregnant women is NY mayor’s wife.
- Pregnant BUT NOT WITH MAYOR’S BABY!
- She was seduced by a mysterious sexy foreigner a couple months ago.
- Meanwhile, the President knew about lizard people all along!
- And guess who initially discovered the evil lizard people during WW2 - THE NAZIS OF COURSE!
- The Nazis have been secretly protecting the human race from the lizard people all along but are of course still the bad guys
- A motley crew of CTA workers and NYPD along with some civilians set off the rescue the ladies and the president. Among them is exactly one foreigner.
- WHO LATER TURNS OUT TO BE the mayor’s wife baby daddy and an agent working for Nazis!
- The good ol’ American citizens of course eventually succeed; the evil foreigner is dead, a proper amount of NY finest is killed off, single blue collar guys from Brooklyn are the real heroes.
- And just when you thought your were in the clear … .TA DA DA DAAAAA…. There will be a sequel

Every character is predictable and single-faceted, most of the dialog is cliched and tired, yet somehow I kept listening. Probably same reason as a lot of us were drawn into watching “Jersey Shore.” Books don’t need to be good to be enjoyable.
