Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
5.0

For its time, the Heart of Darkness was groundbreaking. Although it's dated by today's standards, it's still an engrossing tale and the imagery is so vivid. When the arrows start flying, you duck while reading. The story contains dated, derogatory attitudes toward the natives of Africa, but some of that could be excused simply by considering it a vile tale intended to expose past prejudices.
