hleahy92 's review for:
Every Breath
by Nicholas Sparks
I have read a good amount of Nicholas Sparks books throughout the years, but this one was by far the hardest for me to get through. I was excited to read it after visiting the Kindred Spirit mailbox/Sunset Beach for the first time this past summer, but the rushed plot and characters that fell flat, made it a slow read. The only thing holding my attention was the fact that it was based on a true story/letter he found in the Kindred Spirit mailbox. (The beginning of the book details his “discovery” of the letter and tracking down the couple whose story was detailed in the book, noting names were changed to protect their privacy)
With that in mind, I wanted to know how their story ended/what was in the letter to inspire him to write a book around it…
Only to get to the author’s note at the end and find out it was completely fictitious and he just thought it
would be fun to “insert his own voice” into the narrative. Story wise, I would give it 2.5⭐️, but the whole bait and switch of the narrative vs author’s note is why I am giving it 1⭐️
