this was my second try reading this- the first was when i was 12/13, i quit before i was halfway through the first volume because it was boring- let it be said that my taste was questionable as fuck at that time. WOW. this was my first classic since leaving school so i decided to track some themes while reading, loved that. and the prose? had me consistently sitting back, taking a breath, and rereading
the characters were SO compelling- how their vices were proven to be virtues to them, and how their virtues were eventually vices too. dr frank and i have beef, the similarities he had to the creature were blatantly ignoredor even edited out since walton mentioned frankenstein’s editing of his account of the story (typical) . the immediate and consistent isolation and violent scorn of the creature was heartbreaking. both frankenstein and his son (BECAUSE THAT IS HIS SON FIGHT ME) are wretches by the end, and placing blame on either exclusively is the trap they fell into so i wont either.
