An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole

4.0

“She was Ellen Burns, and she was going to help destroy the Confederacy.”

I came into the book not knowing what to expect but I knew with all the raving reviews, I might have a little expectation of it.
I was not disappointed at all.
I love reading historical fiction but I have yet to read a lot of historical fiction set in America.

This was a amazing read!
It had all the elements of romance, suspense, war plotline and more.
The plotline was straight into it, no beating around the bush and the pace of the book was in such a high adrenaline you couldn't stop reading.

Our characters are very badass. I enjoyed that the main focus was just the main characters and not much side character.
Especially our Elle, she is such a badass.
Not a damsel in distress and having Malcolm to "protect" her.
The character development is so good!
I love reading their banter and of course their romance. It was an instant romance.

The narrative is very real, raw and honest.
Like in the end, it wasn't all happily ever after so easily like how the plotline states Malcolm mom and sister's attitude towards Elle.
I can't wait to see where the series will go.

“I fight for the Union because America is supposed to be a land where people can be free from tyranny, where families aren’t ripped apart to make a profit, where men aren’t whipped for speaking their mind and women aren’t abused worse than brood mares.”
