Happy: Why More or Less Everything Is Fine by Derren Brown

3.0

I think I would’ve enjoyed this book with far less theory and far more thought experiments, though that’s just coming from someone who read far too much unnecessary philosophy as part of my degree. Brown is obviously a very smart and thoughtful person and a lot of the ideas in this book turned my thought processes on their head. It’s not something to read lightly though- it takes time and effort!

Also, a lot of the recommendations are things that most self aware people would already know. But it’s one thing to be aware of the pervasive nature of your personal narrative and another to sculpt that in every day decisions. I do hope that some people who see happiness as a click bait, available and quantifiable “thing” will read this though- life really isn’t that simple.
