Choosing Theo by Victoria Aveline

Thottie Tattooed Theo

I don’t usually rate, but reading some of the recent reviews of this book, I feel like they do it dirty.

In no way throughout the book was non-binaryism shoved down your throat. It was mentioned maybe twice? Honestly if this gets your panties in a twist or makes you uncomfortable to the point where you put the book down after it’s mentioned so rarely in passing, maybe you need to do some self reflecting yeah? Shouldn’t be that big a deal babes.

Honestly the world and society described sounded pretty freakin utopian to me but I digress. Like cmon, no mortgage??? Free health care??? Basic needs like food and shelter already paid for??? Maybe it’s the American in me, but fuck dude. Beam me up Scotty.

Did the male lead, Theo, feel a little shallow and 2D? To me, yes.

Did the female lead, Jade, also feel kinda 2D? To me, yes.

((SPOILER WARNING SKIP THIS NEXT PARAGRAPH IF YOU CARE
Did they fall in love in a short amount of time? Yes.
Is it a destined lovers/mates troupe? Yes.))

Did the writing feel weak to me in some spots? Yes.

But let’s be honest here. Not every book needs to reinvent the wheel. So here’s the important questions and answers I think are ACTUALLY worth a damn.

Did it make me laugh? Yes.

Was the read overall smooth, leaving minimal to no weird whiplash moments? Yes.

Where the sex scenes steamy? YES.

So. IMO this book is a success. I enjoyed it. It was fun. It definitely didn’t reinvent the wheel or have me devouring it and the rest of the series, but I still liked it. I’ll probably read more of the series. I’d recommend this book with a glass of wine and a nice candle. *wink wonk*
