The Trouble with Love by Lauren Layne

“Just that I figure at some point, some guy must have been able to make you smile. And I always wondered if it was the same guy that made you stop.”

Okay, yes, this book was good. Yes, I loved the main couple and their romance and maybe even the second chance aspect, which I’m usually not a fan of. BUT YOU’RE TELLING ME THAT EMMA’S FATHER NEVER HAD TO MAKE AMENDS FOR THE CRAP THAT HE PULLED??? I’M SO MAD I WANNA SCREAM!?!?!?

⇢The Plot

This book was good. It was what I wanted from Emma and Cassidy after all of the lead-up to their relationship that happened these past three books. But, it wasn’t MORE than I wanted. It didn’t exceed any expectations or give me anything new or surprising, and then, the thing that tipped me over the edge was the fact that Emma’s dad never said sorry, as I mentioned above.

Now, for the good stuff. I liked that Emma moving in near Alex’s place was a trope that was used, and I really liked that we got to see the wedding and everything that came of it. I liked how we saw more of a friendship develop between all of the LI’s and I liked the ending. But I JUST CANNOT GET PAST THE FATHER THING. I’M JUST SO MAD GODDD

⇢Emma and Alex/Cassidy

Okay, cooling it on the rage so that I can talk about these two characters. I really liked them in previous books as well as this one, but I wanted more of their personalities to shine through the romance aspect, and I just feel like for how much potential they had, I was let down by what we got. This book was good, but didn’t do them as much justice as I wanted and as they deserved.

Particularly Emma. It sucks that I feel like I know all of the 3 other MC’s infinitely better than I know her, but it’s true. There was so much focus on her accent but then we never actually got to see where she came from…

“Emma had tried the happily-ever-after route, and knew that for every woman who rode off into the sunset on a white stallion, another one got kicked in the face by that very same horse.”

However, the romance was really good. The second chance aspect was great like I said, and it’s undeniable that the two had great chemistry!

“Ask me what else I remember."
She started to run away, but his hand touched her arm.
"Ask me," he commanded.
Emma shook her head feeling both terrified and the most alive she'd felt in years.
He waited patiently until her eyes met his. "I remember us, Emma.”
