The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
5.0
"I am haunted by humans." It takes an amazing author to make Death a likable guy. Markus is an amazing author.
If my boyfriend weren't sleeping beside me when I finished this book, I would have wail for a good 10 minutes to purge all of the emotions this book brought forth.
Apparently joining the Silent Book Club group on Facebook did more than just change the flavor of my Facebook feed—it's also got me back on a fabulous book run. After a multiple year dry spell, I am adding the third book in a row to my all time favorites list.
Yes, The Book Thief is yet another Holocaust book. But, like the Life is Beautiful movie, it's feels fresh. The characters, particularly Death, and the settings were palpable and real—I could literally see them in my head. (Ok, this was probably partly because I saw the movie years ago, but still...)
I did see some people in the SBC group who just couldn't get into it. I suppose that's possible...but, I can't help but wonder, who are these people lol???
