Okay, so this is one of the best-performed audiobooks I've ever read. It almost felt like listening to a really well-produced audio drama podcast, which was obviously the intention. Given the fact that there were going to be plot twists was heavily implied by the book title, it was still mysterious and engaging. The plot itself isn't particularly novel, and the characters aren't especially interesting, but the format made up for the difference. It's not a literary masterpiece, but it's well-written and engaging so I really can't complain. There's some nuggets of feminist conversation but it never really resolves. It falls just short of having something important to say, for me. I think it could have gotten there if it hadn't been so committed to the Gone Girl plot twist bit. It's slightly too ridiculous to get something meaningful across. Again, though, I did enjoy it.
