This has managed to (somewhat) redeem the absolute shit show that the last book was. A solid 4, maybe even a 4.5.
Highlights include: Fastion (for simply existing); the cats; Zachary and Karigan kissing even though it has taken 6 books for us to get here; and that psychopathic old lady finally being impaled by a fucking icicle monster.
