He Giveth More Grace: One Hundred Poems by Annie Johnson Flint by Annie Johnson Flint

4.0

Annie Johnson Flint is a powerful writer of spiritual verse - especially of the hymn-like style of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The best poems in this collection are excellent for private devotion and public use in illustrations or recitations.
It is evident, and should be acknowledged, that there is a great deal of variation between Ms. Flint’s best work and her less polished pieces. Those who love rhythmic perfection will likely be disappointed, yet an awareness of her own story and struggles causes one to overlook the technical flaws. The poetry is intensely devotional and surprisingly doctrinal at the same time.
I recommend this collection for its strengths, and I think all who appreciate both the power of the best work here contained and the underlying sentiments of the whole will not be put off by some of the weaker selections.
