The Windsor Knot
by S.J. Bennett
This was a delicious tale of the Queen as sleuth, and I had no trouble imagining that SJ Bennett had perfectly captured the nuances of Queen Elizabeth's mannerisms, way of speaking and style of dressing, the latter fairly easy given the numerous public images of Queen Elizabeth over the years of her reign.
What felt a little frivolous at the start quickly began to feel as though I was in the room with Her Majesty. From there it was easy to appreciate her keen eye and mind that spans outwards in curiosity while also coiling back in to pluck from memory varying people based on her prodigious interactions over the years.
I especially appreciate that SJ Bennett gave Her Majesty an assistant and private secretary who is a woman of color with a whole lot of glamour and moxie from her days of prior military training. And finally, I liked that I did not know who "did it" till the end of the book.
