remains one of the most exciting graphic novels i've read. the interplay between the written text (observational, frank, open) and visual (watercolor! handmade like i'd never seen before) is a thrill - where one conceals, the other reveals. there is just the right amount of definitely-metaphor and disclosed-fact. the pacing is without fault, the characters and their conversations rich, the setting full of life: all of it worked impeccably.
