The Bone Shard Emperor by Andrea Stewart

Did not finish book. Stopped at 67%.

I'm soft DNFing this book.  I never quite understood what people meant by a book feeling like a "middle" book but I understand now. Stewart brings up lots of interesting questions about what constitutes life, who has a soul, power structures, fighting power, and a lot more that I really enjoy but I felt like this book is just here to get us to the final book in the trilogy.  I found the pacing to be off and through some important things happen it almost feels like there is a lot of filler in this book.

I also don't understand why the author put a romance here between Jovis and Lin.  I think the story could be told perfectly fine without and it just feels weird and unnecessary.
