This book is an excellent read. Ryan’s simplistic writing style makes the novel easy to read and follow along without losing its context and message. This novel tells the tale of a selfish, spoiled wealthy girl named Esperanza from Mexico who has to relocate to America due to a familial tragedy. The novel is centered on the change and experiences Esperanza face during her time in America. Esperanza goes through a character change as well which is due to the effects of the experiences she faced throughout the story. I feel this is a great novel to use in the classroom because some students may be able to relate to it and it also will be an eye opener to other students as a way for them to appreciate everything they have.
