Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore

What would you do if you woke up on your 19th birthday as your 51 year-old-self??

19 on the inside; 51 on the outside … with only the memories, experience, and context of your inside age?

Thus begins Oona’s life of annual birthday jumps (coincidentally her birthday is Jan 1, so each NYE countdown comes with much more trepidation than for the average person). Without knowing what year she’ll be in next, and entirely unsure of why it’s happening, Oona lives her life out of order.

I really liked the premise, and a lot of the story (illicit drug use does not sit well with me, even fictionally). I would also love to read even a chapter or a short story from the perpsective of one of the very few people in Oona’s life who are also aware of her condition and stand by to help her navigate each jump.

Overall, I liked that this book left me with a mindset of thinking about what I have - items, experiences, memories, time - a little differently and with a new appreciation.
