The Dragon's Promise by Elizabeth Lim

4.0

The Dragon's Promise continues a fairy tale adventure. The protagonist is strong and her intentional immaturity is entertaining. While a love triangle is explored, it is over fairly quickly, and her chosen love interest is a great character. The main character also has warm relationships with her family. The underwater magical dragon realm is vibrantly constructed, and the quest soon becomes a series of quests, with descriptive world building. But while the magical system is explained over the course of the story, and there are bits of lead-up to certain aspects of the ending, the ending still feels ill-suited. Overall, however, this is a captivating novel.
